The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation has announced a new funding opportunity for small, Los Angeles-based non-profit theater organizations with an annual operating income between $100,000 and $1,500,000.

“The vast majority of Los Angeles County’s theatrical programming takes place within these small theaters, too many of which are unknown and struggle to obtain funding.  We want them to flourish, not worry about their survival,” comments Sheri Biller, president of the Biller Family Foundation.

“We look forward to receiving creative proposals from these companies whose work enhances the cultural vibrancy of our community,” adds Sarah Lyding, executive director of the Biller Family Foundation.  “Our hope is that these award funds will allow organizations to sustain their artistic activities in this period of economic instability.”

Varying in size of up to $10,000, these awards will support exceptional theater organizations that have devised innovative, courageous and cost-effective practices.  Proposals for the theater awards are due by September 16 , and recipients of the awards will be announced in early November.  Previously, the foundation has directed its theater funding to programs serving young audiences.  This award will expand the foundation’s funding impact within the non-profit theater sector.  More information about eligibility requirements can be found on the Biller Family Foundation’s website.
