The stars turned out for opening night of the Los Angeles premiere of Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy Letts’ Superior Donuts at the Geffen Playhouse including Dana Delany, Arye Gross, Marin Hinkle, Mary McDonnell, Rob Morrow, Mike O’Malley and William Peterson. All were treated to a Chicago-style after party featuring deep dish pizza, hot dogs, gelato cones and of course — superior donuts.
Gary Cole (Entourage) and Edi Gathegi (Twilight) lead a cast featuring Mary Beth Fisher, (Extremities) Kathryn Joosten (Desperate Housewives), Brian Abraham (Superior Donuts), Ron Bottitta (The Sunset Limited), Paul Dillon (Killer Joe), Damon Gupton (Clybourne Park) and Matt McTighe (The Time of You Life).
Cole plays Arthur Przybyszewski, the proprietor of Superior Donuts, a sweets shop that has been a community hub for decades – and both the neglected storefront and its rundown owner are evidence to that. But things change when Franco, a young fast-talking dreamer played by Gathegi bounds into the shop, and the writing is on the wall that things are going to change. Maybe even for the better. Directed by Geffen Playhouse artistic director Randall Arney.
