Center Theatre Group (CTG) is now accepting submissions for the 2011 Richard E. Sherwood Award, an annual $10,000 fund to support Los Angeles artists. The award is presented each year at the Ovation Awards ceremony produced by LA Stage Alliance.
CTG urges early career artists to submit an application if they have resided in Los Angeles for at least six months; have produced and/or collaborated on at least one production in Los Angeles; and are innovative, adventurous and inclined to push boundaries. The artist can be a performer, playwright, director, choreographer, designer or producer. Artists are not limited by title, role or genre but must have a relationship with the art of performance.
The deadline for submitting an application for the Sherwood Award is March 18, 2011. Two orientation sessions are offered by CTG to prospective applicants who have questions or concerns about the application process. The orientation dates are Sat., Feb. 19 at 11 am and Mon., Feb. 28 at 7 pm. The orientations will be held in a rehearsal room at CTG’s downtown Los Angeles offices: 601 W. Temple St., CA 90012. The RSVP deadline for the Feb. 19 orientation is Feb. 16; for the Feb. 28 orientation – Feb. 23.

Established in the memory of Richard E. Sherwood, a lawyer, patron of the arts, president of LACMA and member of the Center Theatre Group board (serving as both CTG board president and chairman) from 1980 until his passing in 1993, the award is an endowed fund by the Sherwood family and honors Sherwood’s passionate commitment to theatre.
The most recent Sherwood Award recipients have been Ann Closs-Farley, a costume designer emphasizing sustainability in her wildly creative costuming practices; Sage Lewis, a composer/lyricist breaking down societal and artistic barriers through his multi-media productions; and Lars Jan, focusing on integrating new technology with physical performance.
