Latino Theater Company at the Los Angeles Theatre Center presents 1951-2006 which is described by playwright Donald Freed as “a 50-year love story centered on the 4th floor of a brownstone on the east side of Manhattan. A time capsule of America from Joseph McCarthy through George W, Bush, from a very unexpected and original angle of refraction.”
This is a special love story from a special playwright. The recipient of numerous awards, Donald Freed has written prolifically for the stage (“Circe and Bravo,” “Devil’s Advocate,” “Veteran’s Day,” “The Quartered Man,” many more) and film (“Executive Action,” “Secret Honor,” “Of Love and Shadows”) as well as novels and non-fiction books. He has been a Distinguished Visiting Professor at USC and is presently Playwright-In-Residence at York Theatre Royal. His most recent play is “The Einstein Plan,” which sold out its March engagement at Los Angeles Theatre Center and returns for a May 23 performance, starring James Cromwell.
For 1951-2006, Freed directs a cast that includes Debra DeLiso (who played a supporting role in “The Einstein Plan”), Michael Matthys, Christopher Fairbanks and Reynaldo Pacheco.
Set design: Francois Pierre Couture. Sound design: John Zalewski. Lighting design: Christopher Ash. Costume design: Nikki Delhomme.
“Donald Freed is a writer of blazing imagination, courage and insight. His work is a unique and fearless marriage of politics and art.”—Harold Pinter
