Jeff McLaughlin is a 2008/2009 Ovation Nominee in the Scenis Design – Intimate Theatre category for his work on A SKULL IN CONNEMARA with Theatre Tribe.

As an Ovation Award Nominee, LA Stage asked Jeff the following questions:

What was the moment that first inspired you to pursue working in the theatre?

Performing a play about blind people in the woods at night…the entire audience was blind!  Very environmental.

What do you feel made the production you were nominated for particularly successful, either overall or for you specifically?

A brilliant script which inspired absolutely everyone involved with the production to give 200%

What project or projects are you currently working on?

Hello, Dolly, Influence, and Naked in the Tropics…the last being a very bare-bones production!

What do you love most about theatre in Los Angeles?

The ambition

What’s your dream project?

A million dollar production of the children’s stage version of “The Hobbit”.

BIOGRAPHY: JEFF MCLAUGHLIN has been designing sets and lighting for film, television, corporate events and theatre in and around Los Angeles for over a decade.  His work has been seen at the Jewel Box Theatre Center, the Group Repertory Theatre, the Gascon, the Comedy Store, the Skylight Theatre and the Elephant StageWorks to name a few.  Corporate clients include Washington Mutual, Infiniti and Wella-Sebastian.  Television credits include Interior Motives and The Carol Duvall Show.  Recent notable works include Recent Tragic Events (Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award nominee), Hatful of Rain at The Skylight and He Asked for It at MACHA Theatre.  He was previously nominated for Ovation Awards for the set designs of A Long Christmas Ride Home and Recent Tragic Events, both at Theatre Tribe.
