Kennedy Initiative to Save the Arts

Kennedy Initiative to Save the Arts

News by Benjamin Rodriguez  |  October 2, 2009

Michael M. Kaiser, president of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, will travel to all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia to lead arts management symposia as part of Arts in Crisis: A Kennedy Center Initiative.

Arts for L.A., the Center for Cultural Innovation and the California Community Foundation will host the Initiative in Los Angeles at the California African-American Museum (CAAM) on Thursday Oct. 8 from 9:00am-10:30am. Artistic Director of East West Players Tim Dang will interview Kaiser in a 90-minute, conversation style symposium that addresses challenges facing non-profit performing arts organizations in areas such as fundraising, building effective Boards of Trustees, budgeting, and marketing.

The Initiative comes in response to the emergency facing the survival of arts organizations on a widespread national level. The program, open to non-profit 501(c)(3) performing arts organizations, provides free and confidential planning assistance in areas pertinent to maintaining vital performing arts organizations during this challenging economic climate.

Though the event is free and open to the public, seating is limited and reservations are on a first-come, first-serve basis. The CAAM is located at 600 State Drive in Exposition Park (near the corner of Exposition Blvd. and Figueroa St.).

More information about the event and making reservations can be found at artsforla.org. For more information about Arts in Crisis: A Kennedy Center Initiative, visit artsincrisis.org
