America’s leading Native American theater company features two original plays spotlighting themes of the urban experience. The 2009-10 season will also include the company’s annual First Look Series, Playwrights Retreat, and Festival of New Plays, plus the Young Native Voices Theater Education Project. All programs are designed to develop new plays and foster emerging and established native playwrights.
The season opens in November 2009 with the world premiere of Carbon Black, a psychological drama by Terry Gomez (Comanche). In March 2010 the company will present Tales of an Urban Indian by noted Canadian actor/playwright Darrell Dennis (Shuswap), produced in association with The Public Theater in New York.
Native Voices, the resident theater company of the Autry National Center of the American West, continues its vital role as the country’s only equity theater company dedicated exclusively to the work of Native American playwrights and theater artists.
